Feedback about the San Diego IT Schools (continued)

Remember, the information technology schools and the finance companies that provide the student loans are out to make MONEY. I was told at the computer school I worked at that they don't take everyone who applies to go. Sort of true:, if they can't get a loan or if they fail the state's very easy basic skills test (the Wonderlic test) then they wouldn't be accepted. Though my boss was trying to give me the impression that the school was very selective. He always had a knack of saying things that were totally true, yet totally misleading.

When I went to check out New Horizons not far from where I live, I got virtually arm twisted into signing up. Luckily, I was only mildly interested(going there more out of concern about the slump in biz in my regular job) and hardly eager to get sucked into what would have been a costly and uncertain proposition. Even the loaning agency tried pursuing me to sign up which I promptly rejected.

These IT schools are throughout the nation. Education is a great American tradition. So are education scams. Remember the art schools which would invite you to trace over a picture of a horse in a magazine and send it to them, so that they could "evaluate" your artistic ability?

There are many industries which are exploited by educational entrepreneurs in this country. The thing is, if an occupation looks interesting or high paying whether it be information technology, medical assisting or court reporting, then those with an eye for a dollar will arrive to make some money from those who may be clamoring to get into that industry.

Thank God for You!!!

Hi there,

Just dropping a line regarding your web site on the truth about these rip-off joints they call IT training schools. Bravo to you!!! How about reporting on schools for court reporting? Quite a few have come & gone here in San Diego. There is one that I know of in Mission Valley & am seriously considering entering that profession. To make a long story short, I 've been down that road with the student loan (finally paid off 4 years ago) from very aggressive sales folks running to sign me up for Columbia School of Broadcasting in Dallas almost 20 years ago.

I don't have a lot of time from work or my family to do research seeming how I stumbled on the story about LapTop Soultions which occurred last September. I was wondering if you could help me find an accredited school for court reporting either here or Los Angeles maybe. I really don't want to get sucked in again for the bite on me for another friggin' loan. Are there any classes in the SDCCD or Adult Schools?

Thanx for the warnings,

Diedrea S. Lewis
